A reliable estimate isn't one that feels right. It's one you can trace back to the drawings, line by line, and defend if a client or a quantity surveyor pushes back on it. Every quantity comes from somewhere real, not a rough multiplier you carry in your head from the last job. Every rate reflects what labour and materials cost now, this month, not what they cost when you last priced something similar. If you can't show where a number came from, you can't really trust it, and neither can anyone checking your figures.
